Not Fate. Fire…

This was what I wrote for yesterday’s DP, but lo and behold, the power went out! Hmm…

Destiny? Don’t Insult Me…

Do I believe in fate?

Let me put it this way…

If destiny was in charge of my life, it has a wicked sense of humour and a flair for chaos.

I don’t believe we’re floating around on some pre-written script, where every betrayal, every heartbreak, every “lesson” was lovingly handpicked by the Universe like a Pinterest board of character development.

No.

Some things happen because people make choices.
Some things happen because other people are weak.
Some things happen because you trusted when you shouldn’t have.
And some things happen because you were brave enough to leave.

That’s not fate.

That’s fire meeting reality.

But here’s what I do believe…

I believe we are born with a core.
A knowing.
A stubborn pulse that says, “This isn’t who you are. Try again.”

And no matter how far we wander from ourselves, to survive, to belong, to keep the peace, something in us keeps pushing back.

Call it soul.
Call it instinct.
Call it the dragon refusing to die quietly.

Life can knock you down.
It can exile you.
It can rewrite your role in the family story.

But it cannot change your essence unless you hand it over.

Maybe destiny isn’t a plan.

Maybe it’s a return.

A return to yourself after everything tried to bend you into something smaller.

I don’t believe everything is meant to be.

But I do believe we are meant to wake up.

And once you wake up…
You can’t unknow what you see.
You can’t unfeel what you’ve survived.
You can’t shrink back into the version of you that kept the peace at your own expense.

If that’s destiny, then yes.

My destiny is this:

To become impossible to silence.

To stay soft without becoming weak.

To burn without turning bitter.

And to walk forward, not because it was written…

But because I chose it.

Mae🧡

I’m really sorry your power went out. That’s the worst, especially after you just finished writing something from the heart. I hope everything’s okay now and it was just a quick outage.

This poem is really strong and real.

I love how you don’t just blame everything on fate. You’re honest about the fact that choices matter. Not everything is destiny. Sometimes it’s people making bad choices. Sometimes it’s us learning the hard way. That kind of clarity takes courage.

  3. Yes!

  4. ‘To return to yourself ‘….as I started reading Mae, …you struck a chord, … yes!! You always readjust, return to your inner strength/core, …otherwise all is lost, ….💙🤗

Whether I believe in fate or not, I doubt the fates even consider me. Thanks, I enjoy poems like this that bear the questions concerning the spinning of our thread.
