The Weeds, the Truth, and Me…

Daily writing prompt
What principles define how you live?

Well WP I almost missed this one today! I am still chasing my tail 😂

Principles??? Now that’s a good one! Where do I even start?

Mine aren’t the sort you’d find printed in a self-help book or stitched onto a pillow. They were gathered the hard way, through scraped knees, broken hearts, and the occasional divine slap from the universe.

If I had to name them, I’d start here:

Kindness first. Always. Even when people don’t deserve it, maybe especially then. But kindness doesn’t mean being a doormat. It means being strong enough to stay gentle in a world that has forgotten how.

Truth always. Not the kind that wins popularity contests, but the kind that sits quietly in your chest and refuses to be silenced. I’ve learned it’s better to walk alone with your truth than join the crowd built on someone else’s lies.

Forgive when you can. And when you can’t, release it anyway. No point letting bitterness take up the spare room rent-free. I’ve carried too many ghosts that weren’t mine to carry.

Never sell your soul. Not for money, comfort, or the illusion of belonging. I’ve seen what happens when people do; they forget who they are. No bargain is worth that.

And somewhere near the top of the list, listen to your gut. That quiet nudge, that whisper that says yes, this or for heaven’s sake, run. It’s wiser than most preachers and louder than any rule-book once you learn to trust it.

When the world feels too heavy, I go outside.
Barefoot if I can, hair wild, dog at my heels. I listen to the wind and remember nature doesn’t rush or justify itself. It just is. And that’s the principle I try to live by too: just be.

Granny Frass used to say, “The truth and the weeds always find their way through the cracks, Mae.” She was right. So I let both grow where they may.

Some folks call that rebellious. I call it being alive on my own terms.

Mae🧡

  4. Truth never dies and cannot be covered up, it will always show up. And you said that forgive and if you can’t, release. To release is to let go and that comes from a from the power to forgive.
Thank you for sharing and God bless.

  5. Weeds, those troublesome pests, …yet…they’re only trying to live, …it’s how we perceive them, Mae, … and as you, (and Granny Frass) so rightly say, let them grow where they may, … yes, I’m agreeing again, … alive on our own terms, …💙
