The Stubborn Art of Rising…

Daily writing prompt
What’s the trait you value most about yourself?

Well, that’s a good question, isn’t it WP?

A trick question, even, because traits aren’t simple things. They’re layered like an old cake, some sweet, some a bit stale, but all part of the recipe that makes you. For me, the trait I value most is resilience. Not the kind of resilience that pretends it’s unbreakable, but the kind that knows it will break, and chooses anyway to keep putting itself back together.

Life has been generous with lessons, and I’ve been stubborn in collecting them, like stones in my pocket. Loss. Heartache. Betrayal. Change. They’ve been my relentless teachers. But resilience is what turns those blows into something softer over time, something that can be worn as armor without weighing the soul down. It’s the quiet determination to rise again, not with a flourish, but with that messy, barefoot grace that says, “I’ve been here before, and I’m still standing.”

I value resilience because it’s not about perfection. It’s about courage. It’s about showing up for yourself when no one else will. It’s about laughing in the face of despair, even if it’s a shaky, sarcastic kind of laugh. And it’s about knowing that the ground may crumble beneath your boots, but there’s always somewhere new to walk.

That’s the trait I value most, the unshakable willingness to keep walking, barefoot or not.

Mae 🧡

  2. Sitting here barefoot, Mae, nodding in agreement to every word, … if I ever lost my sense of humour, I would be devastated, nothing beats it, nothing at all, …💙

    1. Ah, barefoot and nodding, that’s the best way to read anything Penn (or listen!) 😊. I’m right there with you; humour is the one thing that keeps the wheels turning and the heart light. We’d be lost without it 🧡

Amen Mae. Resilience like that, messy, real, brave, is everything. Not about being perfect, but about standing back up again and again. With God’s strength guiding us, even when the ground shakes, we can keep walking in faith and hope.

    1. Amen 🙏 beautifully said Willie. It really is about showing up, shaky ground and all, and trusting that strength greater than our own will steady us. Faith and hope carry us through.;🧡
