What Really Powers Me…

Daily writing prompt
What things give you energy?

Good question!

For me, it isn’t an energy drink or a triple espresso. What really fuels me is connection with nature, with truth, and with people who don’t drain me. A long walk outside, the wind in my hair, the smell of earth and plants, listening to the crows chatter, that’s like plugging myself into a power source.

Silence also gives me energy. When the noise stops, I can hear my own thoughts again, and that’s when I recharge. Music at the right time can lift me too, but it’s not constant; I use it like a spark when I need it.

And then there are the little things: laughter, real conversations, creating something with my hands, painting, writing. Those bring energy that doesn’t just last for a moment but keeps me going for days.

But if you want to know what really drains me? Fake people. The ones who plaster on a smile while their eyes are plotting. Pretend conversations about nothing that matter to nobody. Being stuck indoors under artificial lights while the world outside is alive and breathing. Endless noise, endless screens, endless distractions. That’s not just draining, that’s a drain.

So what gives me energy is what’s real. Real silence, real laughter, real work with my hands, real people who don’t play games. Everything else? Well, that’s not energy at all; that’s a drain.

And I refuse to let drains pull me under.

Mae🧡

There is that quote attributed to Blaise Pascal – “All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

    1. Wow, I’ve never heard that quote before! It definitely makes you think about how much we avoid just being with ourselves.
