Run? You Must Be Joking…

Daily writing prompt
How often do you walk or run?

How often do I walk or run?

Well… let’s start with the obvious: RUN???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME… LOL. That ship sailed a long time ago. If you ever see me running, you’d better run too, because it means something serious is chasing me.

Walking, though, that’s a different story. I walk continuously all day. Not in some regimented, Fitbit-counting, 10,000 steps or bust way. Just the natural rhythm of moving about, doing what needs doing, letting the legs carry me through the ordinary.

And then there are the real walks, the ones I take in nature, when the mood strikes. No set time, no schedule, no “I must get my heart rate to this or that.” Just me, the earth under my feet, and whatever shows up along the way. Sometimes it’s a breeze carrying the smell of grass. Sometimes it’s a crow giving me the side-eye from a fence post. Sometimes it’s nothing more than the quiet hum of life reminding me that just being here is enough.

There’s something honest about walking. It’s steady. It’s forgiving. It gives you space to notice things outside and things inside. Running always felt like I was chasing something (usually my own breath). Walking feels like I’m arriving.

So, how often do I walk? Every chance I get. And how often do I run? Only in my dreams… or nightmares. I’ll leave the running to the hamsters on their wheels, bless them for their enthusiasm. I’d rather stroll my way to freedom.

Mae🧡

  6. My parents said I need to move more so I used the city centre and the shops as my motivation to walk there. I could window shop from the moment the shops are open to the last customer standing.
But I do not run. Unless something scary is chasing me, then I might try x

    1. That sounds like the perfect kind of exercise, strolling with a purpose and a bit of window-shopping joy thrown in. I’m with you on the running, though… unless it’s something truly terrifying, walking will do me just fine too! 😄

  7. Your walks and runs sound like mine, Mae. You can write about them much better than I though. :) I am hoping you don’t have to run today or any day. Happy, blessed Saturday dear Mae.

    1. Same here, Jean! Running never tempted me, even back in the so-called ‘springy years.’ Walking, though, that’s always been my happy pace🧡
