For me, it’s those quiet, unexpected moments that catch me off guard. The sight of an old friend’s laugh lines deepening with genuine happiness. A tiny bird bravely building a nest on my windowsill, oblivious to my staring. Or a message from someone I love, simple and unpolished, that hits me right in the heart.

Then there’s Heff, my little blind troublemaker, always poking around, always reminding me that life is both absurd and beautiful. Watching him claim his tiny victories, whether it’s snagging a scrap of food or staking his claim on a sunny patch of floor, somehow brings a tear of joy. It’s the everyday resilience, the mischievous spark, that makes me pause and appreciate the small miracles.

And of course, those beyond the veil have a way of nudging me, too. Granny Frass’ sly smiles in my mind, Sir Percival’s smug, knowing gaze, and even the sharp commentary of Darcifer, all remind me that connection doesn’t end at the ordinary, earthly senses. Sometimes, a whisper from beyond, a memory, a lesson, a mischievous laugh, catches me off guard in the middle of my day. That’s when the tears sneak in: pure, unfiltered joy at the reminder that love, guidance, and humor don’t die; they just change shape.

It’s not grand gestures or shiny achievements; it’s the subtle proof that life, with all its chaos, still holds pockets of beauty and connection. Joy is in the resilience of those we love, the lessons from those who’ve gone before, and the tiny, absurd victories of creatures like Heff. It’s in realizing that even amidst chaos and grief, the universe has a soft, mischievous hand ready to remind us: life is miraculous, and laughter is eternal.
