Not a Thing, But a Shift…

Daily writing prompt
Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.

Now that’s an interesting question. I don’t often get excited about “things” the way most people mean it, new gadgets, a holiday, or whatever is trending. What gets my blood moving is seeing people slowly come to life. Really wake up. People asking questions, even the uncomfortable ones: Why is the world the way it is? Who decided what’s normal? Why do we all go along with this madness?

Take COVID, for example. Back then, most people simply followed orders, masked up, stayed in line, and clapped when they were instructed to clap. No questions asked. Now, years later, I hear those same people quietly admitting, Wait… did that really make sense? That cracks me up, but it also excites me, because it means even the deepest sleepers aren’t sleeping as soundly anymore.

And yes, it frustrates me too. I still see the insanity all around, the distractions, the lies people swallow without chewing. But I also see sparks. A pause before compliance. A raised eyebrow where before there was blind acceptance. And that tiny shift is enough to give me hope.

So maybe the last thing I got excited about wasn’t a “thing” at all, it was humanity itself, slowly, stubbornly, confused but curious, finally cracking open its eyes.

Mae 🧡

Nice post Mae. In Ireland did you have ‘ eat out to help out’ thing? Madness. How quicker to spread a ‘ disease’.

    1. Thanks Joey! 🧡 Oh yes, we had our own version of that madness. The logic was hilarious, lock the doors, open the doors, now everyone pile in and eat together, it’s good for you! Honestly, if you didn’t laugh, you’d cry. The perfect way to “stop a disease” … by encouraging everyone to sit elbow to elbow. 🙄 Madness indeed! I refused to follow any of their BS rules which made life quiet interesting at the time 😂

    1. Holidays are definitely good for the soul, Joey… as long as you’re not cooped up in some resort, penned in like cattle. Give me freedom, space, and a bit of nature any day over an all-inclusive box! 🧡

  3. Perhaps you would like to watch Why Stupid People are More Dangerous than Criminals, Why Critical Thinking is Disappearing, the Rise of Collective Stupidity on YouTube.

It is shocking but explains to a tee what is happening in the world right now and why

    1. Thanks for the recommendations, Joseph! I’ll definitely have a look. It doesn’t surprise me one bit, though, the world seems to be living proof of that right now 🙄 Critical thinking has gone out the window, and people are following the herd without question. Scary stuff, but also good to understand it better.

  4. I really enjoyed this response. As someone that doesn’t get excited about much of anything, I’m not sure I had a response to the prompt. Your shift to the little glimmer of hope from people taking notice of the absurd manipulation around them is a great answer!

    1. Aw, thanks, Scott! I think sometimes it’s those tiny glimmers that keep us going, even if the rest looks like madness. At least when people start to notice, it means not everyone is sleepwalking. That in itself gives me a bit of hope.🧡
