Top 10 movies? Jaysus, I nearly spat my tea when I read that prompt. I haven’t set foot inside a cinema in donkey’s years! Truth be told, I can’t even remember the last film I watched in an actual theatre. Do they still sell the buckets of popcorn the size of a small child? Or is it all nachos now? Either way, it’s not my scene anymore.
But… I do have a few favorites tucked away in memory. Here goes:
1. Avatar – I mean, the colours, the forests, the whole magical world. My kind of place. I’d happily live up a tree with the Na’vi.
2. Lord of the Rings – and no, I won’t pick just one, you can have the whole lot. Hobbits, elves, the works.
3. The Matrix – the original. Classic.
4. The Matrix Reloaded
5. The Matrix Revolutions
6. The Matrix Resurrections – yes, I watched the whole series again at Christmas. Don’t judge.
7. The Quiet Man – John Wayne bumbling around Ireland. The accents are questionable, but the scenery makes up for it.
8. The Secret of Kells – magical animation, Celtic myths springing to life.
9. The Song of the Sea – selkies, family, and that dreamy Irish other worldliness.
10. The Wind That Shakes the Barley – a reminder that Irish soil holds more than roots; it keeps history and blood.
So there you have it, my “Top 10.” In truth, I’m more likely to be watching the sky change colour at sunset, the dog snoring beside me, or the neighbor’s latest saga unfold. But now and then a film does sneak in and stick with me. And, if it’s mystical, Irish, or involves choosing between red and blue pills, it’s got my vote.
