The Day a Butterfly Went Bargain Hunting…

When Butterflies Walk Through the Door…

I was in the charity shop yesterday, doing my usual, folding, tidying, chatting away, when a butterfly just floated in through the door. Not in a hurry, not panicking like some stray wasp… no, this one was gliding like it owned the place.

Last year, I saw none. Not one. Not in the garden, not on my walks, nowhere. And now? They’re everywhere. In the lanes, across the hedgerows, and now apparently in the mood for a bit of retail therapy.

It stopped me in my tracks. There I was, mid-fold with a jumper in my hands, thinking… maybe Mother Earth is changing. Or she’s reminding us that transformation is possible, that one year can be bare, and the next can be full of colour and movement.

Or maybe she just sent this little butterfly as a “Hello” to brighten my afternoon.

Either way, I loved that moment. The stillness in the shop, the quiet flutter of wings, the reminder that life can surprise you when you least expect it.
And sometimes, that’s enough.

So whether it was Mother Earth sending me a sign, or just a butterfly with an eye for vintage handbags, I’m taking it as a good omen. Because if a butterfly can wander into a charity shop on an ordinary Tuesday and make it feel magical, then who knows what other little wonders are waiting just around the corner?

      1. Exactly, and let’s face it, there’s only so many snoods you can ‘rock as a caterpillar’ before seeking some pupating flamboyance – happens to me all the time 😉💜

  4. A stop stare and digest moment, … maybe it means everything and nothing, … but magically means so much, a moment captured in time, …💫
