Aged to Imperfection…

Daily Writing Prompt: What do you think gets better with age?

You know what gets better with age? Me.

Like a fine wine? Nah. More like a battered old whiskey barrel, a little rough around the edges, full of strong opinions, and no longer pretending to be sweet when I’m really not. Somewhere along the way, I traded people-pleasing for peace, and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer.

Perspective sneaks up on you too. The things that used to keep me up at night don’t even earn a second thought anymore. Not every battle needs to be fought, not every opinion deserves airtime, and not every plan needs to be perfect. The stuff that used to make me tear my hair out? These days, I let it roll on by while I sip my tea (or something stronger if the mood takes me).

You also develop a sixth sense for nonsense. I can spot a troublemaker, a gossip, or a drama-stirrer from a mile away, and I’ve got absolutely no problem steering clear. I don’t explain myself, justify my choices, or apologize for the boundaries I’ve set. And naps? Naps are no longer a guilty pleasure. They’re a lifestyle.

Most of all, though, what truly improves with age is knowing who you are. The ability to laugh at yourself. To drop the mask, ditch the filters, and be gloriously, unapologetically you. Some things age like milk, fast and sour. But things like confidence, self-respect, peace of mind, and the ability to ghost toxic people? They age like whiskey.

And I’ll drink to that.
