Comfort? I’m Winging It, Thanks…

Daily prompt: What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?

Well, isn’t that a loaded question. What strategies do I use to increase comfort? Honestly? None. I don’t have a list, a Pinterest board, or a 5-step morning routine blessed by the gods of wellness. I live moment to moment like some slightly feral, caffeine-fueled mystic trying to dodge drama and stay sane.

One minute it’s a blanket, bad YouTube, and a bag of crisps I swore I wasn’t buying again, the next it’s blasting music from the early 1980’s and pretending I have no responsibilities. Comfort, for me, isn’t a carefully crafted ritual involving lavender oil, yoga poses, and green smoothies. It’s about surviving the madness with a bit of sarcasm, a few choice swear words, and whatever snack’s closest to my hand.

I do wake up at 5am, but not to meditate or write affirmations in some overpriced leather notebook. I wake up, enjoy my quiet time for a moment, till Heff chimes in! I debate my existence and figure it out as I go. Some days I ghost the world. Other days, I overshare and tell inappropriate jokes just to get a laugh. Both count as self-care in my book.

So if you came here looking for life hacks or 10 Ways to Boost Your Daily Comfort, sorry to disappoint. My strategy? Winging it. Improvising. Laughing at the absurdity of it all. And occasionally deleting people for my own peace.

And you know what? It’s working just fine.

  2. 😂💀 Oh my goodness , Mae, that’s just brilliant! Your self-awareness and honesty are so refreshing. Who needs 10 Ways to Boost Your Daily Comfort when you’ve got the art of winging it down to a science?! 🎉

Seriously though, sometimes the best strategy is to just roll with the punches, laugh at the madness, and prioritize your own peace. Deleting people, both metaphorically and literally, can be a powerful act of self-care. You’re not here to people-please, you’re here to live your best life. And that’s something worth celebrating! 🥳

    1. Ha! Love this, you just totally got me. Honestly, who’s got time for those ‘10 Ways to Boost Your Comfort’ lists? I prefer the ancient art of winging it, deleting nonsense as I go. Life’s too short to entertain fools and bad energy. Here’s to living unapologetically, laughing inappropriately, and leaving a trail of confused people in our wake. Cheers to that!

  3. Sounds sensible to me.

    What’s today’s inappropriate joke?

    1. HaHa Michael! Sounds sensible to me too… but listen, today’s not one of those joke days. Some days I serve chaos, other days I sip my tea and watch the circus. Today’s a tea day. Brace yourself for tomorrow, though.

      4. As it should be! Always better to face ghostly gossip and family scandal with a cuppa in hand. Though some days it requires something a bit stronger. And if Bully or Fanny show up? Make it a double.

      6. I hear you Michael, sometimes reality demands a little help from the spirits (and I’m not just talking ghosts! 😉). I’ve definitely spent nights drowning in wine to escape the chaos of caring for my dad, only to wake up regretting it all over again. Been there, done that, got the hangover! These days, I’m learning to prefer reality, messy and all. So when I do decide to tip one back again, I’ll raise it for you too, patience is a virtue, after all, and sometimes we’ve got to wait a while before the next drink cheers us on. Here’s to strength in the sober moments and shared sips in spirit! And in the meanwhile.. enjoy a cuppa.

      7. Will do, thanks! Take care of yourself, Mae.

You never know what the other spirits might add to the conversation. They can be right chatty at times.

      8. Haha, you’re not wrong there! Those spirits have a habit of chiming in whether they’re invited or not. I’ll be sure to pass on your regards, and perhaps suggest they keep it down a bit. Take care of yourself, too!

  4. “Winging it” is exactly how we all live life, whether we admit it, or not. Even those that make lists, sniff lavender, meditate, whatever. It all boils down to winging it.

    1. Exactly Sandy! Some of us are just bold enough to admit it. Lists, crystals, essential oils, all grand, but at the end of the day, we’re all just winging it and hoping the universe doesn’t notice we’ve no clue what we’re at!
