Thank You, Next Lesson…

Daily Writing Prompt: How Do You Express Your Gratitude?

Gratitude, eh? It’s one of those things we’re supposed to do, but honestly, I don’t do it because a self-help book told me to. I do it because life has thrown me enough curve-balls to realize that if you don’t stop and appreciate the small stuff, you’ll trip over a big one.

Daily, I make a point of noticing things, like when the kettle boils just as my patience runs out, or when a robin stares me down like he knows all my secrets. I say thank you for weird stuff too, like not running into anyone I don’t like at the shops, or for the hot spot holding up long enough for me to post that one risky blog.

To the people in my life, I make an effort to be kind and tell them how I feel. Life’s too bloody short for regrets, and no one ever lay on their deathbed wishing they’d held their compliments in. I say thanks when it matters, apologize when I should, and occasionally tell someone to feck off if gratitude isn’t what’s needed in the moment. (Spiritual doesn’t mean spineless.)

I also try to be grateful for the chaos. The universe loves to slap us upside the head sometimes, but I reckon it’s usually for a reason. Maybe it’s to teach me patience. Maybe it’s to remind me I’m not in control. Or maybe it’s just for the universe’s own entertainment. Either way, I try to laugh at it, learn from it, and thank it for keeping life interesting.

So yeah, gratitude is a daily, messy, rebellious, sometimes sarcastic conversation I have with life. Some days it sounds like, “Thank you for this beautiful sunrise.” Other days it’s, “Cheers for that total disaster, I guess I needed a plot twist.”

But either way, I keep saying thank you. Because if you can laugh at the madness, find the lesson, and appreciate the little things, you’re already ahead.

  1. GRATIDÃO SOMENTE TEM ALGUM SIGNIFICADO SE FOR SUPORTADA POR COMPARTILHAR, DIVIDIR, DOAR.
COMO UM LEITOR BEM DISSE UM DUA DESSES, “GRATIDÃO É AÇÃO, GRATIDÃO É AMOR EM MOVIMENTO”. ACHEI PERFEITO.
    AMOR, COMPAIXÃO, SOLIDARIEDADE.

    1. I absolutely love this. Gratitude without action is just a word. When we give, share, and show up for others, that’s when it becomes something real and alive. ‘Gratitude is love in motion’ — what a beautiful truth. Thank you for sharing this reminder. The world could use more of that energy.

      2. Beautiful words to live by. If we had more of those three in action, the world would be a very different place. Thank you for sharing that it resonates deeply.

Amen 🙌 I try to thank God in all things, big, small, messy, or painful – 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Gratitude keeps my heart soft and my eyes open to His Grace in the chaos.
