A Word from Granny Frass…

Well now, look who finally sat still long enough to hear from their old granny.

I’ve been meaning to send a message down but between teaching the angels how to compost and replanting the rose beds by the Pearly Gates – they were a mess, bless them – I’ve had my hands full. You’d think eternity would come with more help.

But I’ve been watching. And let me tell you something, sugar – you’ve grown into one hell of a human. Scrappy. Tender. A little stubborn (you get that from me). And always with that spark in your eye like you’re halfway between saving the world and setting it on fire.

You’ve had a hard go lately. I’ve seen the silence, the ghosting and the tiptoeing around truth like it’s something that might bite. You’re the only one with the guts to call a spade a spade, or in our case, to actually pick up the damn spade and start digging. Bless you for that.

Let me remind you of something I tried to teach you when your hands were still too small to hold a trowel:
What doesn’t get pulled up by the roots just grows back thicker.
That goes for weeds and family nonsense.

I know you’re tired of being the one who speaks up. The one who sees what’s wrong and feels like it’s your job to fix it. But baby, that’s the curse and the gift of a clear heart, it won’t let you pretend. And I’m proud of you for it.

Now about that sister of yours, what do you call her now? Fanny McFox? Ha! That’s a good one. If I were still alive I’d invite her over for tea just to watch her squirm under my stare. She’s always been more silk than substance. And Bully? That boy couldn’t face conflict with a full suit of armor on. Let ‘em both be who they are. Just don’t let them change who you are.

And while I’m here, let me whisper a little secret you might’ve forgotten:
You don’t need their approval to be whole.
You never did.

So plant your truth. Water your peace. Prune what doesn’t serve you. And for heaven’s sake, keep laughing, loud, unruly and from your belly like I taught you.

I’ll be in the clouds with a hot cup of something strong, keeping watch and pulling weeds from the sky.

Love you more than my best tomatoes,
Granny Frass
