Episode 41 – Confession’s of a Black Sheep…

Confessions of a Black Sheep: Tales from the Other Side of the Fence

You know, I’ve noticed something lately. Every time I sit down to share a story, it’s about Bully Yates – the man, the myth, the legend, now presumably running the most organized family drama soap opera. But today, we’re taking a detour. Because, truth be told, I’ve got a few tales of my own and let’s just say, they don’t exactly involve choir practice or knitting circles.

See, I wasn’t born with a halo and if there was a rule-book for ‘How to Be a Perfect Soul’, mine’s got coffee stains, missing pages and a few burnt corners. I’ve been a black sheep from the get-go. The one who asked too many questions, stayed out too late and had an unholy obsession with traveling to places where I couldn’t pronounce the street signs.

I didn’t always make wise choices. I’ve danced with the wrong people, trusted the wrong folks and made more impulsive decisions than a bargain shopper on Black Friday. I’ve chased love, dodged trouble and had my fair share of ‘what in the holy hell was I thinking?’ moments. There are people who learn by reading. Others learn by watching. And then there’s folks like me, the ones who have to touch the electric fence just to be sure it’s really on.

But here’s the thing nobody tells you: every single one of those wrong turns taught me something. Some lessons were gentle, like a soft nudge from the universe. Others were more like a frying pan to the forehead. But all of them, every misadventure, every heartache, every toe stubbed on the path to wisdom – shaped me into the gloriously imperfect soul I am today.

I’ve sat on beaches watching sunrises in places I can’t spell and I’ve eaten things from street carts that defied both logic and food safety laws. I’ve laughed until I cried, and cried until I laughed. I’ve learned that sometimes your biggest mistakes make for the best stories, and the most beautiful growth comes from the messiest parts of life.

I say this because I know there’s a few of you out there reading this who feel a little… offbeat. Maybe you’ve been the black sheep too. Maybe you’ve carried the weight of your own missteps, wondering if you’ll ever get it ‘right’. Well, let me tell you – right is overrated. Life isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. It’s about soul growth. And if you’re collecting lessons like I have, congratulations – you’re doing just fine.

Lesson of the Day:
Don’t be afraid to be the black sheep. Be the one who asks too many questions, takes too many chances and laughs a little too loud at your own jokes. Life isn’t meant to be lived in a straight line. Take the scenic route. Make a mess. Touch the electric fence just once. The lessons you’ll gather along the way will be worth it and you’ll have better stories at parties.

So here’s to us, the beautifully flawed, occasionally reckless, forever learning, gloriously soulful rebels of the world. May our paths be winding, our hearts stay wild and our lessons always come with a side of humor.
