First Things First: Open Eyes, Have Tea…

Daily writing prompt
What’s your #1 priority tomorrow?

Honestly?

Waking up in the morning! That’s the big one. If I manage that, then I’ve already beaten the odds, ticked off the most important box, and frankly, the rest is pure gravy.

See, the world is obsessed with lists. Endless lists. People write things like “clear email inbox,” “run 5K before sunrise,” “smile at strangers,” “conquer the world before lunch.” And I’m sitting here thinking, hang on, isn’t waking up enough? You open your eyes, you take a breath, you put two feet on the floor (hopefully in the right slippers), and you’re alive. That’s not nothing!

I’ve tried lists. I really have. I write them out with good intentions, and by noon, half of it is missing, lost in a pocket, or chewed up by the dog. Or worse, I’ve done half the jobs and forget to cross them off, so it looks like I’ve achieved nothing when in reality I’ve been running around like a lunatic. And don’t get me started on productivity gurus, the kind who think if you’re not up at 5 a.m., cold-plunging into a barrel of ice, you’ve already wasted your life.

Not me. I’ll happily rebel against the cult of “must-dos” and “should-haves.” My number one priority tomorrow is simply to wake up. After that? Maybe I’ll write. Maybe I’ll drink tea. Maybe I’ll do absolutely nothing, and if so, I’ll do it with style.

Because here’s the truth: life isn’t meant to be a never-ending tick-box exercise. Sometimes, it’s enough just to wake up, take it slow, and let the day unfold without a whip at your back. And if tomorrow turns out to be a lazy one? All the better.

So yes, priority one: wake up. Priority two: stay awake long enough to enjoy the fact that I did. Everything else is just optional extras.

  1. The important thing is keeping those “optional extras” to a minimum! 😂

  4. Bonheur! Quand levé aux aurores et avoir rien de prévu. Mais surtout sans culpabilité. S’obliger à faire quoi que ce soit, tue la créativité.

    1. Absolutely Jacques. There’s something magical about waking early with nothing planned and no guilt. It truly lets creativity breathe. I love that Tristan Bernard quote!
