Daily Prompt: On what subject(s) are you an authority?
Interesting question, but it depends what you mean by authority. If you’re asking if I’ve got a framed certificate hanging on the wall, endorsed by some institution or society of people in suits, then no, I’m not your girl.
But if authority means someone who’s lived it, felt it, been bent, broken, rebuilt, and came back swinging, then yes, I am a qualified, battle-worn, soul-certified authority on life.
I’m an authority on loving people who didn’t love me back, on finding light in places so dark it made my bones ache. On seeing through bullsh*t smiles and knowing when someone’s vibe is off before they even open their mouth. On grief, betrayal, survival, starting over, and laughing at wildly inappropriate moments because if you don’t, you’ll drown.
I know what it’s like to walk away from everything you thought was solid, to be the black sheep, the rebel, the one that made people uncomfortable because I spoke the truth out loud. I’ve buried loved ones, lost things money can’t buy, and figured out that the Universe has a twisted sense of humor but usually knows what it’s doing.
So, no, no props, no medals, no certificates (just woo ones!) Just lived, raw, beautiful, messy, rebellious experience. And in my book, that’s the only kind of authority worth trusting.
