Daily Prompt: Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?
Good question. And if I’m honest, yes, though I’d never claim to be perfect at it. I’m not one of those zero-waste gurus weaving my own toilet paper from nettles, but I do what I can in my own messy, slightly rebellious way.
I recycle religiously (unless it’s raining sideways, in which case the bin gets whatever I can fling at it from the back door). I’ve swapped out plastic bottles for glass where possible, and I gave up buying those awful individually wrapped snack bars that used to fill my bag and my conscience with guilt.
I’m a fan of second-hand and charity shops, not because it’s trendy, but because some of my best finds have seen things someone else was daft enough to throw away. It feels good knowing I’m giving something a second life and not feeding the fast fashion monster.
And then there’s the garden. I plant what I can, when I can, and try to keep my little patch of earth a bit more bee-friendly and a bit less weed killer-ish. Granny Frass would be proud, though she’d still have a word about the state of my flower beds.
I try to walk more, drive less, and eat less meat these days too, though if someone waves a proper Irish breakfast in front of me, all bets are off.
For me, it’s about small, conscious choices that fit into my real life. No preaching, no perfection, just trying to be a bit kinder to the planet, one habit at a time.
